I couldn't find a huge flower like Carrie has, but I found the biggest artificial flower I could. And I didn't have any gold paint. I thought I did because I tried to make this outfit before as a dress, but it's lost somewhere in the mess that is my sewing room. But I did have a can of copper spray paint. Here's what you'll need.
You're going to use the scissors to cut the square of fabric scrap. It should be big enough to hold the safety pin down. A helpful tip is you'll also need the scissors to cut off the little plastic bit on the back of the flower that connects to the stem. So after you get down with the prep work, you're going to put a big glob of glue on the back of the flower.
Open the safety pin and put it in the glue so that the pin part is facing up. Now I used a regular big safety pin, but they actually make a special type of safety pin to make brooches. But either way I would put the scrap of fabric on the back to make it extra secure. And put more glue under the scrap to secure it. Which brings me to the next step.
Turn the flower over.
And that's it! Just let it dry. If I did this again, I would either do a plain white flower pin or I would do a fun neon color or an actual gold. Word of warning, you might want to wait a few days before you wear this or spritz it with perfume or febreeze. I waited until the last minute to make this and when I wore it to chuch on Easter Sunday I got a headache from the fumes it was giving off and I had to take it off so I wouldn't be high driving home. LOL...Here is the complete outfit as promised from yesterday including the dress I made and a fabulous pair of wedges from JustFab.com. Escuse the wrinkles and if you make this, send me pictures!
