Ranting about TV again...

Okay so I think one should always turn to favorite TV shows and movies to look for travel inspiration. That's why I often mention movies or shows that have influenced my travel dreams. Maybe I'm a product of my generation, but TV introduced me to the outside world the same way radio did for our grandparents and books did for our great grandparents. And one show that never fails to take me up and carry me away from my reality is Once Upon a Time. When I first saw the pilot, I admit I wasn't sure how it would play out with the dueling storylines. But these writers are genius. How do they keep their stories straight? And at first I was ready to cast Regina and Mr. Gold as the villians they once were, the Evil Queen and Rumplestilskin. But over the course of the show they've become my favorite characters. I want to be Regina's best friend and show her she doesn't need her manipulative mother to have love. And I want to smack Rumple upside the head and make him apologize to not only his son, but to the entire town for everything he ever did. Belle would help me...once she remembers. And this show has the best costumes. I mean just look at these.

There is such craftsmanship in each piece. They're made for not only HDTV but for closeups and personal moments with these characters. I love the Evil Queen costumes the best. They're kind of like the Versace of the Fairy Tale World. So how does a love of mashup fairytales with Disney references translate to travel? Well if you make a theme of it, you could travel to Maine and visit small coastal towns looking for fairy dust and call everyone 'Dearie'. You would of course watch season 1 of Once while on the road. Of course you'll have to make sure to sample Lasagna with red pepper flakes and apple pie at every diner, stay at a bed and breakfast and search for pirate ships on the bay and libraries with clock towers. Sounds like a getaway to me.
